What does a Sexuality & Intimacy Counselor do?

01

I bring more of a problem-solving approach. I offer education, information, tools, and techniques to address short-term issues.

Some things you might see a sexuality counselor for:

03

  • gender and sexuality identity/expression questions

  • sexual/intimacy issues rooted more in relationship issues (a helpful option for partnerships looking for guidance on short-term sexual and intimacy issues that could be resolved with effective communication strategies, and new ideas).

  • Not feeling sexually or intimately satisfied in a partnership or as an individual

  • Lack of interest in sex

  • Pain or discomfort when having sex and would like other intimacy ideas

  • Arousal or libido issues

  • Inability to have an orgasm

  • Having an orgasm too quickly

  • Desire to expand the range of intimacy and sexual experiences, as a couple or individually

  • Curious about other relationship styles in addition to monogamy as a way to explore yourself and/or your partnership

  • Curious about integrating more playful and kinky practices to your experiences

  • Family guidance or counseling while navigating developmental growth and experiences (Caregivers may want to be more informed on a subject before/while addressing the issue at home with young person/s. Or, perhaps there is conflict regarding sexual or gender identity/expression/safety I can help resolve)

Is there a difference between a Sexuality Counselor v Sexuality Therapist?

02

“Both address sex-related issues. The main difference is sex therapists can diagnose and treat long-term problems, while sex counselors provide short-term solutions and education, referring to sex therapists when necessary.”

We do not perform sex or have any sort of physical contact with clients. I may give you homework where you apply certain techniques at home with your partner. However, any kind of touch or sexual behavior is strictly forbidden in counseling sessions.

Additionally, anything that I would feel is unethical will be avoided

Amber is great at what she does period. Through our work in her guided meditation and counseling sessions, she's shown me the way to help me gain comfortability in my own gender identity. I don't think I would have made this much progress in this short a time without her helpful and supportive practice.
